Ali Rock is based off of the Champs legendary 1961 photo by Flip Shulke. My rendition of the scene adds color, sense of depth, and brings movement through time by using the square pixels, piece by piece to blend into the underwater flow. I used slate stone as a canvas because I wanted to bring physical fitness aspect to creating. I had to take breaks between grinding the art into the stone. Eventually, I switched to a diamond tip grinder to help.
